The best web development tools I use in 2024

Introduction

Hello, I’m Karolis Scerbiakas! I’ve been a web developer for more than 7 years.

During all this time, I have tried so many tools of all kinds. Today, I would like to present the ones I use daily.

Let’s dive into my favorite toolkit!

Cloud Hosting

Cloud Computing Services | Google Cloud
Meet your business challenges head on with cloud computing services from Google, including data management, hybrid & multi-cloud, and AI & ML.

Google Cloud has been my cloud hosting provider of choice for more 3 years. I never had any issues. I started off with using basic VMs with Laravel Forge. Then slowly got drawn into cloud computing. This is the list of GCP services I use daily:

  • Google Kubernetes Engine
  • Cloud Run
  • BigQuery
  • Cloud Functions
  • Cloud SQL
  • BigQuery
  • Cloud Armour
  • Google Cloud Storage

I used to use Digital Ocean, but had few issues in the past ant it seemed to limited at the time, therefore I migrated to GCP.

Software for Web Development

Visual studio code

Visual Studio Code - Code Editing. Redefined
Visual Studio Code is a code editor redefined and optimized for building and debugging modern web and cloud applications. Visual Studio Code is free and available on your favorite platform - Linux, macOS, and Windows.

It’s fast, powerful, it runs on all platforms. I use for javascript projects. I also use it with various extensions such as GitHub Copilot, Angular Language Service, Terraform, Kubernetes.

PhpStorm

I use this for my daily work. Works great if you're working with Laravel or any other php project.

Docker

One of ways to pack your code & run it anywhere. No idea how to ship code without containers in 2023.

TablePlus or Querious

For database access. TablePlus supports more databases, but is not as robust & mac native client as Querious is.

Other

Bear

Minimalistic & simple markdown note taking app for apple ecosystem. Been using for years. No brainer for me.

Spark.

I've been using this email client for years, forgot what it's like to log in into gmail & other email providers. Highly recommend!
